Legendary Singer Asha Bhosle Dies at 92 After Remarkable Musical Legacy

Agency Watch — Legendary Indian singer Asha Bhosle has died at the age of 92 in Mumbai, prompting an outpouring of tributes from across the world.

Renowned for her versatility and energetic performances in countless Bollywood films, Bhosle captivated generations of listeners. She also gained international recognition through collaborations with British artist Boy George.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute, saying her “extraordinary musical journey” enriched cultural heritage and touched millions globally. He praised her timeless voice, noting that her work—ranging from soulful melodies to vibrant compositions—would endure for generations.

Over a career spanning more than eight decades, Bhosle earned multiple accolades, including two Grammy nominations. She was also honoured with India’s highest cinema award, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, as well as the Padma Vibhushan.

Bhosle, the younger sister of iconic singer Lata Mangeshkar, had been admitted to a private hospital in Mumbai on Saturday due to a chest infection and exhaustion, according to her granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle.

Tributes poured in from across the arts community. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan described her voice as a pillar of Indian cinema that would resonate for centuries. Actress Hema Malini said Bhosle’s music brought life and character to every song, leaving the nation in mourning.

Her son, Anand Bhosle, confirmed her passing to ANI, stating that her funeral will take place in Mumbai on Monday. Reuters could not immediately verify further details.
